How are you paying?

Pick one to see whether you need a referral, what to bring and what happens on the day.

Paying yourself

Referral
No referral needed.
Bring
Nothing extra. Wear clothes you can move in.
On the day
You pay the fee by card or cash at the end of the visit.

Private health insurance (extras cover)

Referral
No referral needed.
Bring
Your health fund card
On the day
We claim your rebate on the spot with HICAPS, and you pay the gap. How much your fund pays depends on your level of cover.

Medicare GP chronic condition management plan

Referral
You need a referral from your GP under your plan. Older GP management plans and team care arrangements, made before 01/07/2025, still work until 30/06/2027.
Bring
  • Your GP's referral
  • Your Medicare card
On the day
Medicare pays a set rebate for up to 5 allied health visits a calendar year (10 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients), shared across physio and any other allied health you see. We lodge the claim and you pay the gap. We send your GP a short report after your first and last visits.

TAC (transport accident)

Referral
In the first 90 days after the accident, you don't need TAC approval first if you have a claim number and a doctor or other health professional recommends physio.
Bring
Your TAC claim number
On the day
We bill the TAC at its rate. If our fee is higher, you pay the difference, and we'll tell you the amount when you book.

WorkSafe Victoria (work injury)

Referral
No referral or approval needed. Physio is one of the services you can start without your WorkSafe agent's approval.
Bring
  • Your claim number
  • Your WorkSafe agent's name
On the day
We invoice your WorkSafe agent. If our fee is above what WorkSafe pays, you pay the difference, and we'll tell you the amount when you book.

DVA Veteran Card

Referral
You need a referral from your GP.
Bring
  • Your Veteran Card
  • Your GP's referral
On the day
Nothing to pay: DVA pays us directly. An All Conditions (Gold) card covers physio for any condition that needs it. A Specific Conditions (White) card covers your accepted conditions only.

Questions people ask

Do I need a referral?
No, unless you're using a Medicare GP plan or a DVA Veteran Card. Both of those need a referral from your GP.
Can I claim physio on Medicare without a plan?
No. Medicare only pays towards physio under a GP chronic condition management plan, and your GP decides whether you're eligible.
How much will my health fund pay?
It depends on your fund and your level of extras cover. Your fund can tell you before you book. We'll show the rebate and the gap on your receipt.
What if I need to cancel?
Please give us 24 hours' notice by phone, so someone else can have the time.

Rebate rules checked against Services Australia, TAC, WorkSafe Victoria and DVA pages on 30/10/2026. Prices are examples for a concept site.
